Municipality of Den Helder continues cooperation with New Energy Coalition
After four years, the municipality of Den Helder extends its partnership with New Energy Coalition. Since the start of the partnership in January 2020, projects in the hydrogen programme in the Noord-Holland Noord region have been expeditiously executed and with that also projects in the municipality of Den Helder.
Sustainable future
Den Helder is committed to a sustainable and reliable energy supply. With the aim of making living, working and travelling as sustainable as possible, also in the future. New Energy Coalition offers Den Helder its expertise, knowledge and resources to support the common goal: optimising the energy transition. New Energy Coalition offers a large network of energy parties, works on many energy projects and connects parties to achieve concrete results. This gives the municipality of Den Helder access to an extensive network.
The energy supply of the future is a major challenge that can only be met through effective cooperation. Peter van Diepen, alderman for sustainability and energy transition: “The partnership with New Energy Coalition has proven in recent years that by working together, we actually accelerate hydrogen initiatives in Den Helder. For example, in the Zephyros project, we see the realisation of a hydrogen infrastructure and the use of green hydrogen in the maritime sector coming ever closer with an electrolyser, refuelling station and ships running on hydrogen.”
New Energy Coalition is driving innovations and projects that contribute to the energy transition. “Local government parties are an indispensable link in these new developments. The cooperation with the municipality of Den Helder proves that. We are therefore happy to continue the work with and for Den Helder,” said Marieke Abbink, managing director of New Energy Coalition.
Sustainable energy hub
In recent years, the Noord-Holland Noord region has strongly established itself as a player in the energy transition, with the municipality of Den Helder as an important hub for sustainable energy in general and hydrogen in particular. For the longer term, wind energy landfall creates opportunities for local employment and contributes to strengthening the regional economy. For the shorter term, the partnership with New Energy Coalition takes concrete form with the Noord-Holland Noord hydrogen programme (www.waterstofnhn.nl). NEC ensures that this programme is vigorously implemented for the partners in the province of Noord-Holland. For the municipality of Den Helder, this programme includes, for example, projects on the transition from fossil gas to blue and green hydrogen and the development of a smart energy system that enables shore power in the port using hydrogen. The coalition also supports cooperation in the Hydrogen Valley Noord-Holland. Here, the Noord-Holland Noord region works together with the North Sea Canal Area and the province of Noord-Holland.
